What will it look like?

Selecting a therapist is an important decision. Before your first session, we will talk briefly on the phone to help me understand a bit more about your your hopes of meeting together, I will share with you how I work, answer some of your questions and see if we are a good fit. If so, we will attempt to get you scheduled within one week of our call. If we are not a good fit for one reason or another, I will work to get you a few referrals of providers in the area who may meet your needs better.

We will meet using video therapy that is simple and secure. The platform we use is HIPAA compliant, and we can meet in the comfort of your home, office, car, or wherever else you are able to access strong internet and our privacy is honored. Once we determine if we are a good fit, we will schedule your first appointment, and you will receive a unique for my secure waiting room.

How long will it take?
That really depends on you, because you get out of this what you put into it. Counseling can be short-term and consist of about 4 to 8 sessions, or it can remain as an open-ended therapy for support and lifestyle improvement. The duration varies and depends on what brought you into therapy in the first place.

Are you currently accepting new clients?
Due to high demand and my specialties, I have limited availability. Therefore, I take clients on a case-by-case basis. After a brief phone call (10-15 min), we can know if it’s best to get you a few great referrals or if we can place you on the schedule. Feel free to text our scheduling line to request this call (541.371.5547).

I keep my sites up to date, so if you see a banner at the top of this page, Google, Facebook or my Psychology Today profile stating that I am not accepting new clients, this is the most up-to-date information.
If you would like to be placed on our current waitlist, please contact our clinic.

What is Sex Therapy?
Below is a great description of what Sex Therapy is and what it isn’t originally posted HERE.

What Sex Therapy is:
At its core, sex therapy is a form of talk therapy (AKA counseling) that aims to help individuals and partners improve their sex lives. It’s very similar to general counseling, but it focuses on sex and relationships. Nobody takes their clothes off, and we don’t watch people have sex. We simply talk!

We often discuss sexual difficulties the client is currently having and ways to help resolve them. We see both individuals and partners. At the end of each session, the therapist may assign homework or make recommendations for the individual or partners to try. This can include things such as sensate focus, trying a new sex position, or reading a book.

We may also refer clients to medical providers, such as pelvic floor therapists or doctors who specialize in sex medicine. We realize that each situation is unique, so our sessions and treatments are unique as well. We tailor each session to meet the specific needs of each client.

What Sex Therapy is NOT:

Again, sex therapy is talk therapy. While the client and counselor discuss intimate and sexual topics, they do not engage in any sort of physical contact or sexual activity at any point. A therapeutic practice in which the client and practitioner engage in physical touch or intimacy is typically known as sex surrogacy. While sex surrogacy can be helpful for some, the practitioners at Wellness Lab & Clinics are not sex surrogates.

What happens at our first appointment?
Our first appointment is an opportunity for you and the therapist to meet each other, size each other up and gather information. The ultimate goal will be to get to know you and to learn about your story. You can expect a lot of questions (why are you seeking counseling now? what are you hoping to change?) as well as asking whatever questions you have. Your job will be to tell your story as openly as you can. We’ll finish by discussing the results and what treatment options are available and next steps.

For individuals, your first session or two will focus on us getting to know each other and what brought you to seek therapy. For me, this will focus on gathering enough information to find which therapy model can address your needs best. And for you, the first sessions will help clarify your needs and help us determine how my services will bring you the hope and healing you are seeking.

For relationships, our first session will be with the three of us (for throuple 4 and polycules 4+, oftentimes best to meet with the primary relationship first) and the following 2 sessions I will meet with each of you individually. We will meet after these joint and individual interviews for a feedback session where I will provide a comprehensive analysis of your current relationship, and we will determine together which direction we should go in therapy.

What should I do to prepare for our first appointment?
To make the best use of our time together, please access your paperwork for new clients by logging onto the secure client portal, and put together a list of any questions you have, so that we make sure to address them during our session. Then, just take a big breath and relax.

What are your fees?

Do you accept insurance?

Many insurance companies will reimburse 50-80% of our fees. You may contact your insurance company for specific details of your coverage and how to submit requests for reimbursement.
We do not bill insurance companies directly or take responsibility for collecting from your insurance carrier for therapy - this way the potential reimbursement goes directly to you. We do provide a detailed invoice of services after payment (called a super bill) that can help facilitate communication with your insurance carrier and determine their reimbursement options.
